New Railway Project Teams and Communities Join Forces to Herald the Year of the Dragon

To welcome the Year of the Dragon, our new railway project teams visited the communities where our projects are taking place to proactively support a series of festive events organised by local partners. These included heart-warming activities like distributing goodies bags to the elderly and celebratory events for locals to enjoy the Chinese New Year atmosphere together. Through these community engagements, we aimed to spread holiday cheer and strengthen ties with stakeholders as we ushered in an auspicious new year.

The Tung Chung Line Extension (TUE), Tuen Mun South Extension (TME) and Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line (KTU) projects have entered the construction stage. To express our gratitude for the community's ongoing support, representatives of the projects, including Mr Walter Lam, Project Manager – TME&HSK, Mr Ng Lap-kei, Chief Construction Manager - TUE Civil, Ms Connie Hon, Chief Corporate Communications Manager – Capital Works and the major members of the project teams visited the community in-person to pay New Year's greetings to residents in Tuen Mun, Tung Chung and Kwu Tung.

Led by Ms Joyce Wong, chairlady of the Tung Chung Rural Committee, the TUE project team visited Ma Wan Chung Village to distribute lucky bags filled with various festive foods to the villagers, wishing them a prosperous new year. On the same day, the Islands District Care Team also helped distribute lucky bags to other villages of Tung Chung Heung, showing their care for everyone in the community. Meanwhile, the TME project team, together with the New Railway Projects Youth Ambassadors from Lingnan University, brought lucky bags full of blessings to locals. The handing out of each lucky bag was more than an opportunity to spread festive cheers and warmth, it was also a chance for the project team to connect with residents and listen to them. We believe that through these community visits, we are delivering on the true value of community engagement that the Corporation holds dear.

To spread good fortune in the community, we could not miss the tradition of handing out Fai Chun! Both projects invited calligraphers to craft auspicious phrases on Fai Chun as gifts for neighbours, with the aroma of ink filling the air and enhancing the festive atmosphere. While lively lion dances livened up the mood, the residents enthusiastically received the fiery red Fai Chun bearing joyous greetings, which carried everyone's hopes for the new year. The events fostered good neighbourhood relationships, creating a wonderful community spirit. This year's Lunar New Year activities were supported and co-organised with several local organisations, including the non-profit charity Ching Chung Koon, the Tung Chung Rural Committee, the Tung Chung Living Network, etc., instilling a tremendous amount of New Year's joy into the community.

The TME project team also participated in a Chinese Culture Learning Day at the Islamic Primary School, introducing traditional Lunar New Year customs to students from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Through exhibition booths and games, the students also deepened their understanding of the TME project. Amidst the strong Lunar New Year atmosphere, the students wished the project great success!

As in previous years, our project teams fully supported festive events in rural communities including Mui Wo, three Heungs (Pak Mong, Ngau Kwu Wan, Tai O), Hung Shui Kiu, and Ha Tsuen and Kwu Tung. We brought greetings to village representatives, shared aspirations, and exchanged project updates to strengthen ties with the locals.
