Successful Completion of Bulk Excavation of Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line

The bulk excavation of Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line has been successfully completed! The engineering team has spent approximately six months to unearth the tunnel structure which was built during the construction of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line on the East Rail Line, marking an important milestone of the project!

Train Service Adjustment between Tung Chung and Sunny Bay Stations on 26 October to Facilitate Major Track Diversion of Tung Chung Line Extension

Major track diversion works are being conducted under the Tung Chung Line Extension Project. Four turnout installations will be carried out in phases to connect the existing Tung Chung Line to the new Tung Chung East station. The first turnout installation will be carried out on 26 October, and there will be small scale service adjustment for the Tung Chung Line and train service between Tung Chung and Sunny Bay stations on that day will end around 2 hours earlier than usual to facilitate the works.

Major Works Commence to Lay a Solid Foundation for New Railway Projects

Supporting the Government’s long-term strategic planning and development for Hong Kong, the MTR Corporation is taking forward a series of new railway projects in full swing to enhance the Hong Kong’s railway network, as well as to connect and build communities. Mr Carl Devlin, Capital Works Director of MTR Corporation today (10 May 2024) provided progress updates on the respective new railway projects, including the major civil works commencing progressively this year and relevant planning and project management measures to lay a solid foundation and get well prepared for the construction peak in the next few years.

Integrating Sustainable Design in Blueprint of New Railway Development
MTR Attained "BEAM Plus" Accreditation for Seven Upcoming Stations

With the purpose to "Keep Cities Moving", the MTR Corporation is developing new railway projects to facilitate the development of Hong Kong, while sustainable concepts are integrated into the new stations throughout their design, construction, and operation. Seven new stations have successfully attained “BEAM Plus” Provisional Gold or above certification.

A kick-off event for the Tuen Mun South Extension (TME) project was held on 31 October which was joined by relevant government departments, working partners and community representatives to celebrate the project entering into the construction stage and turning a new page for the development of Tuen Mun District.

Construction of Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line Commences

The Ground-breaking Ceremony for Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line was held on 29 September 2023. Representatives from MTR Corporation, the Highways Department and the local community attended the ceremony to witness the project moving from the planning and design phase to the construction phase.

Tung Chung Line Extension – New Railways Go Beyond Boundaries​

The Tung Chung Line Extension (TUE) Ground-breaking Ceremony was held on 25 May 2023, marking the start of a new chapter in Hong Kong’s railway development. It also signified that the main construction works of the TUE project have commenced.
