Escalator Refurbishment

The escalators within the MTR network have a design lifespan of over 40 years in general. With an aim to enhance overall service and reliability, the Corporation has been arranging major overhaul for the escalators at around their 25th year of use and launched the escalators refurbishment programme since 2002. As of 2022, a total of 498 escalators have been refurbished including 451 for Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line, Island Line and Tung Chung Line, and 47 in East Rail Line.
