Hin Keng Station is in a residential area which, on sunny days, you can often see blankets and bedsheets hanging on street side railings to air. This local phenomenon creates a juxtaposition of colours and patterns and a unique sense of neighborhood intimacy that is the inspiration for this artwork. The design of the colourful glass canopy above the station entrance is based on the patterns and colours of the residents’ blankets. The overall composition represents a patchwork quilt, itself a symbol of solidarity and blessings. When the sun shines, the colours are projected onto the ground in front of the station, creating a kaleidoscope of colours and patterns that welcome passengers to the station. In the station forecourt, two blueish blankets are aired on a series of sculptural railings. These cyanotype patterns were created by local children, teenagers and families during community workshops. The remaining railings remain blank, encouraging the community to bring their blankets and complete the artwork.
