Led by the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation and project artist, and in collaboration with MTR Corporation, “Kaleidoscopic Future Architecture of Western District” is the photography and illustration series of the eight projects including Church, Police Station, MTR Station, Market, Park, School, Rehabilitation Centre and Community Centre.
Sai Ying Pun is home to a large number of historic heritage buildings. Although the function of many of these buildings has changed over time, their presence is a constant reminder of the long, vibrant history of the neighbourhood.
This project uses the pinhole camera as a time tunnel and combines memories past with envisions of the future. To create the artwork, a group of young people first learnt how to make pinhole cameras. They then visited local heritage buildings and captured images evocative of the past and the future. Assembling the images picture by picture, they created eight sets of kaleidoscopic photo collages that illustrate an ideal future landscape for the community.
