Passengers passing by MTR Central station today (13 August 2011) will be pleasantly surprised to find over 100 rabbits inside a kingdom of their own near Entrance / Exit J.
Colourful and uniquely decorated, these rabbits are the stars of the latest "art in mtr - arttube" exhibition entitled "WeWow Rabbit".
The exhibition is part of the "WeWow Rabbit Charity Scheme" organised by the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art (HKSEA), through which special needs students from various schools work with HKSEA to design their own plastic rabbits. Using different colours, shapes, and patterns, the students let loose their imagination to create a colony of 30cm-tall rabbits.
Also present in the exhibition are larger fibreglass rabbits designed by well known celebrities, artists, and arts organisations to show their support for this project.
"We used the theme of rabbits because they are smart, energetic and active. We believe participating students have the same qualities, provided that they are given adequate opportunities to express themselves," said Mr Magic Chui, Project Officer of HKSEA. "The students were given plain white rabbits to start off with, resembling a fresh sheet of paper that is free of any creative barriers."
"Passengers will be delighted to discover the hidden talents of Hong Kong when admiring the vividly textured art pieces," said Mrs Miranda Leung, General Manager - Corporate Relations of the MTR Corporation. "Through this exhibition, we hope to convey the importance of equal opportunities and mutual respect towards building an inclusive society."
MTR passengers are invited to visit the "WeWow Rabbit Charity Scheme Exhibition" at the arttube in Central Station and appreciate the variation brought by this creative form of art. The exhibition will be on display until 13 September 2011.
