The work of contemporary Hong Kong artists is in the spotlight at MTR Central Station in a Hong Kong Arts Month 2015 exhibition organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. The exhibition opened today (9 March 2015) at the "art-in-mtr - arttube" gallery at Central Station's Entrance/Exit J. It showcases the paintings, sculptures and installations of 11 acclaimed artists from the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre which explore life and art through innovative perspectives.
Hong Kong Arts Month 2015 is also bringing live performances by two of the city's most respected arts groups to the MTR's "living art" platform in the Central Subway of Hong Kong Station. Passengers can enjoy a huqin performance by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra on 19 March and an ethnic dance performance by the Hong Kong Dance Company on 26 March from 6pm to 6:45pm.
"We're delighted to be a part of Hong Kong Arts Month 2015 which is bringing a rich variety of cultural offerings to the city. By staging exhibitions and live performances in Central and Hong Kong stations through our art-in-mtr platform, we hope to shine a spotlight on the works of Hong Kong's home-grown artistic stars and take art out of museums and auditoriums to be shared with the wider community," said Ms May Wong, General Manager - Corporate Relations of MTR Corporation.
The art-in-mtr initiative aims to enhance MTR journeys and offer inspiration in passengers' life journeys. Other than temporary exhibitions and live performances, the initiative also features stimulating and attractive pieces of permanent art in station concourses and platforms to create a more vibrant and vivid travelling experience for everyone to enjoy.
Eleven thought-provoking pieces including paintings and sculptures by acclaimed artists from the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre are on display at the "art-in-mtr – arttube" in MTR Central Station (Entrance/Exit J) from now to 30 April 2015.
