MTR passengers will have a chance to experience their city from a new perspective though a series of 29 paintings which are on display in a new "Art in MTR" exhibition near Entrance/Exit J of MTR Central Station to 9 December 2016. Entitled "Heartbeat in Hong Kong: Elaine Chiu's Solo Exhibition", the exhibition depicts cityscapes and landscapes around Hong Kong through the eyes of a talented young artist who captures the distinctive local culture behind the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
Currently a Fine Arts major at the University of Hong Kong, Ms Chiu is from the post-90s generation and her journey of soul-searching is reflected through her art works. "From my perspective, painting is not only an adventure to show a microcosmic portrait of the city, it is also a spiritual exploration. By combining the realistic images on every corner of the streets with rich watercolour rendering, I hope to project the intertwined relationship between my observations on details of daily life in Hong Kong and my sentiments," she said.
"Ms Chiu's works capture the hectic life and uniqueness of our city. We hope our passengers can take a moment to appreciate not only the beautiful paintings but also the artist's adventure of uncovering the true colours of our dazzling city's lights and souls," said Ms Maggie So, General Manager - Corporate Relations of MTR Corporation.
"Heartbeat in Hong Kong: Elaine Chiu's Solo Exhibition" is the latest art exhibition under the "Art in MTR" programme. For over ten years, it has been a popular platform for aspiring artists, designers and talented individuals in the creative industries to showcase their works to the community. The objective of this programme is to enhance passenger's travelling experience through provision of easy access to different art elements including live performance, short term art exhibition and permanent display of art pieces.
