Seven talented Hong Kong artists are showcasing works which were inspired by their time spent in Beijing. The exhibition entitled "Under The Bird's Nest" starts today (8 October 2008) at arttube in MTR Central Station and will run until 5 November 2008.
"Under the Bird's Nest" is the first in a series of activities including talks, workshops, exhibitions and performances being held to promote contemporary visual art by Hong Kong artists under the annual art programme "October Contemporary 2008 - Attraction" organised by eight of the city's leading art organisations including 1a space, Artist Commune, Asia Art Archive, Osage At Foundation, Para/Site Art Space Para/Site, Videotage, White Tube and C&G Artpartment.
On display are the creations of Cho Hyun-jae, Chow Chun-fai, Kwok Meng-ho (Frog King), Lam Tung-pang, Li Pang, Mok Wai-hong and Bobby Sham.
The two-dimensional works depicting life in Beijing and the city's scenery reflect the ambitions, sentiments, hopes and experiences of the artists while in Beijing. The media used include enamel paint on canvas, mixed media on canvas, photography, charcoal on wood panels, ink and acrylic on rice paper, ink on wooden panels and tepera on canvas.
