More than 30 colourful collages created by people with disabilities using discarded fabric donated by the public will be on display in the latest "art in mtr – roving art" exhibition entitled "Piece & Whole".
Jointly organised by the MTR Corporation and Christian Family Service Centre (CFSC), the exhibition is being held at MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station starting today (1 April) until 3 May 2009 and at MTR Fanling Station from 6 to 31 May. The artworks were created by people with mental disabilities to promote inclusion. The artwork features a zoo, birds, beauty, gardens, trains, scenic spots in Hong Kong and more.
"The theme of the exhibition is based on a popular game called 'Paper-Scissors-Rock'," said Ms Lam Yuk Hang, Art Development Coordinator of CFSC. "'Paper' implies the acceptance of each other, 'Scissors' symbolise the creativity of creating a new picture with discarded cloth, and 'Rock' represents the conflict between human beings. Every collage in this display sends a message on acceptance of people with disabilities in the community through art."
"The patterns in these collages not only form beautiful and meaningful images, they also garner tremendous support from the public for those who are disadvantaged," said Mrs Miranda Leung, General Manager – Corporate Relations of the MTR Corporation. "We invite MTR passengers passing through Tiu Keng Leng or Fanling stations to appreciate the creative artwork and also the important messages they convey."
