"People from different cultures holding hands in harmony and living happily in China" is the common theme of 36 paintings created by Hong Kong students to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The inspiring works are now on display at MTR Hung Hom Station as part of the latest "art in mtr - roving art" exhibition entitled "Harmonious and Wealthy China".
The paintings are the winning entries selected from more than 10,000 submissions to the"Hong Kong School Painting Competition to Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" organised by the Wofoo Social Enterprises. Using vivid colours and rich outlines, Hong Kong students express their love of the motherland.
"The students have found new and creative ways to express their pride in a harmonious and wealthy China," said Mrs Miranda Leung, General Manager - Corporate Relations of MTR Corporation. "I hope the moving paintings will offer yet another perspective into China's development as we mark the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China." "We would like to thank the MTR Corporation for providing this platform for students to display their paintings to the public. Having them in such high-traffic and visible areas is wonderful recognition for the students," said Mr. Joseph Lee, SBS, JP, President of Wofoo Social Enterprises.
Passengers are encouraged to visit the "art in mtr - roving art" exhibition at MTR Hung Hom Station from today (25 September 2009) until 25 October 2009 and at MTR Sheung Wan Station from 27 October to 25 November 2009.
What's more, Chinese music will be featured in the upcoming "art in mtr - living art" performances. Using different kind of drums, the Refiner Percussion Group will perform traditional Chinese songs to share their love of the motherland with MTR passengers on 2 October between 6:00pm and 6:45pm at the Central Subway of MTR Hong Kong Station.
"art in mtr - roving art" features temporary art exhibitions at different MTR stations. About 10 exhibitions are held each year at MTR stations to promote local artistic talent and the public's appreciation of art.
