Adorable handmade teddy bears take centre stage at MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station ahead of the Easter holidays in the latest "art in mtr - roving art" exhibition entitled "Dressed-Up Teddy Bears" to be held from today (16 April 2014) to 26 May 2014.
A Caribbean Pirate, Mozart and a Mermaid are just some of the 20 colourful characters on display. They are created by Ms Tam Siu-fong, a local seamstress-cum-artist who found a new love in hand-making of costumed teddy bears after her retirement.
"Teddy bears are an iconic children's toy. Often they are also given as gifts to adults to express love, congratulations or sympathy. I hope these lovely bears will delight members of the community the same way they brighten my days," said Ms Tam. "I am very happy that MTR provides me with a platform to share my creations with the public."
"This exhibition is a good example of the way the MTR art programme brings art and enjoyment into our busy daily lives, while also providing an outlet for talented local artists to share their creativity with the wider community." said Mr Jay Walder, Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation. "No doubt, Ms Tam's lovely teddy bears will bring not only a smile to the faces of our passengers but will also take them on a rich cultural journey."
After their stint at MTR Tiu Keng Leng Station, Ms Tam's handmade teddy bears will be on show at MTR Tin Hau Station from 29 May to 7 July 2014.
"art in mtr - roving art" is an on-going initiative featuring temporary art exhibitions at different MTR stations. About 10 exhibitions are held each year to promote local artistic talent and the public's appreciation of art.
