As MTR celebrates its 45th anniversary, we are launching a collection of souvenir to revisit old memories of MTR’s shared journey with the community and create new ones.
45 years ago, MTR Corporation launched a commemorative ticket to mark the commencement of its rail service. That ticket allowed passengers to travel on the “Modified Initial System” (later became the Kwun Tong Line) which had 9 stations.
Today, the old magnetic-strip tickets have been fully replaced by smart tickets, and the number of MTR’s heavy rail stations has increased to nearly 100. The retro souvenir ticket offers us an opportunity to look back on the developments of the ticketing system and the impressive expansion of the service network over the past 45 years.
Ticket Features | • The front design of MTR’s first-ever commemorative ticket, issued by MTR Corporation back in 1979, will be reprinted on the smart retro souvenir ticket to let passengers relive the landmark moment of MTR’s opening • The retro souvenir ticket includes a gold-coloured cover, the design of which features the embossment on the commemorative booklet sold with the old commemorative ticket • A card holder is designed to look like the old commemorative ticket and includes the tiny hole that was found on all old magnetic-strip tickets |
Price | HK$60 each |
Ticket Validity | Each ticket is valid for one single domestic journey on the MTR1 |
Over the past 45 years, MTR has continuously upgraded its fleet to enhance the passenger experience. To trace the evolution of MTR trains, we have designed 6 magnets that look like the cabs of selected trains that are either retired, in the process of being decommissioned or still in use.
Magnet Features | • The 3D magnets are shaped like the selected trains’ cabs and include various details • You can stick the magnets not just on your fridge but also white board and other metal surfaces, or simply put them down as decorations, whether at home or in the office |
