Shenzhen Safari Park
Up-close encounter with kings of the beasts and myriad wildlife
Thinking of exploring animals outdoors with your kids? The Shenzhen Safari Park, home to thousands of creatures of over 300 species, is a much recommended option. Spanning an area of 640,000 square metres, it is the first national wildlife park that houses uncaged animals. Among the list are a number of rare fantastic beasts with a national Grade I or Grade II protected status from various parts of the world, such as the South China tiger, golden snub-nosed monkey, Siberian tiger, flamingo, Magellanic penguin, giraffe, zebra, Asian elephant, red-crowned crane, rhino, as well as the extremely-rare tigon and liger home-bred in the park.
The park is divided into three areas, namely the Herbivorous Animals Zone, the Wild Beasts Zone and the Animal Performance Zone. A must-go attraction in the Wild Beasts Zone, Beast Valley, allows you to feed tigers, lions or bears behind a safety net while sitting in a safari car reinforced with a custom iron cage. While it is a truly thrilling and extraordinary experience to witness the magnificence of the kings of the beasts within spitting distance, there is also a glass corridor for the faint-hearted to appreciate the savage creatures from afar.
Docile animals, including the giraffe, kangaroo, hippo, zebra and elephant, are also available in the park and especially suitable for a close contact for children. To give the little ones an unforgettable memory, why not buy some food and feed the animals yourselves?
There are also seven stadiums for a variety of animal performances, with “Beast Parade”, a grand musical staged in an open square, being the most sought-after show. Other entertainments of distinct features include “Town of Circus”, “Happy Ocean”, “Parrots Assemble”, “Elegant Elephant”, “The Call of the Wild” and “Dancing with Sharks”. To enjoy all wonderful performances, stay tuned for their schedules!
For a full experience in such a huge park, don’t forget to get a map upon entry. You can find the show times and locations of the performances and the recommended routes covering all kinds of animals in the park. Horse-drawn carriages, park coaches, motor scooters and camel-rides are also available for rent to experience an effortless journey.
